A Quote by Sir Martin Rees, Astronomer Royal of Great Britain

Telescopes are in some ways like time machines...
They reveal galaxies so far away that their light has taken billions of years to reach us. We in astronomy have an advantage in studying the universe, in that we can actually see the past. We owe our existence to stars, because they make the atoms of which we are formed. So if you are romantic you can say we are literally starstuff. If you're less romantic you can say we're the nuclear waste from the fuel that makes stars shine. We've made so many advances in our understanding. A few centuries ago, the pioneer navigators learnt the size and shape of our Earth, and the layout of the continents. We are now just learning the dimensions and ingredients of our entire cosmoc, and can at last make some sense of our cosmic habitat.

Of course, every atom of our body was once part of a star!

This is the end to one of my favorite movies, GATTACA. This is part that contains my favorite quote where Vincent says, "For someone who was never meant for this world, I must confess, I'm suddenly having a hard time leaving it. Of course, they say that every atom of our body was once part of a star. Maybe I am not leaving.......maybe I'm going home."

After I watched this movie I researched on this a little bit and found it to be true "every atom of our body did belong to a star at some point or the other".

It get to the point directly... you could skip this paragraph. This just FYI. For those of you who choose to read anyway... here is the secret of life! Just kidding...Well, everyone must be knowing about the Big Bang theory by Stephen Hawking. It states that all the matter in this universe was so densely compressed at one time that the gravity was close to Infinity. This state is also called the state of Singularity. Few Scientists recently discovered that the Big Bang was not the start of our universe but just a phase of the universe... they believe that the Universe keeps contracting and expanding. One such instance when our Universe contracted infinitely and all the galaxies(one of them being our Milky Way Galaxy) were thrown apart we termed as Big Bang. Anyway this was not our point of discussion... getting back to the topic "every atom of our body was once part of a star"

All of the hydrogen and some of the helium were formed in the aftermath of the Big Bang..because they are lighter elements(remember... Hydrogen and Helium are one of the first elements of the Periodic Table). Later on these atoms combined with each other to form much heavier elements like Carbon and others. One of the last elements to form was Iron. Slowly all the essential elements needed for life to originate were formed on Earth as it had the perfect climatic conditions. What is Life is a complete different questing. I want to talk about the matter by itself. When you were young... you were small... today you are a grown up. Your height weight and your total mass has increased? Where did you get it from? Obviously... the Stars again! What ever food you eat and digest constitute as a fuel to give you energy and add extra cells to your body. MATTER is still from Stars. I think about 80% of our body consists of Water (H2O) and the remaining muscle and the Bones... All from Stars! After death when the body perishes... its again part of some Star. The Matter our body is made saw the Big Bang... Isn't this thought by itself fascinating...
